When do you need a teeth cleaning at out clinic in Dubai?

During the 6 monthly check-up by the dentist, the dentist measures the condition of your teeth, including your gums and whether plaque and / or inflammation are present. This measurement is also called the DSPI score. There is a natural space between your teeth and gums. The medical term for this is pocket.

By proper maintenance of your teeth, for example by flossing and fading, these pockets remain in good condition and the depth of the pocket remains minimal. This means there is little to no chance for bacteria. Below is an overview of the DPSI score:

  1. The gums are healthy
  2. The gums are inflamed, you have gingivitis
  3. In addition to gingivitis, you also have tartar
  4. Breakdown of the supporting tissues, you have periodontitis (pocket> 4 and <6)
  5. Periodontitis in combination with withdrawn gums
  6. A further deterioration of situation 3 (pocket 6 or larger)

On the basis of the DPSI score, the dentist can refer you to a dental hygienist for cleaning or prevention assistant. With a DPSI score of 1 or 2 you will be referred to the prevention assistant. The prevention assistant provides:

  • the removal of tartar and plaque;
  • polishing the teeth;
  • measuring the dpsi score;
  • fluoride treatments;
  • information and instruction on dental care.

In the following cases it is certainly advisable to go to the dental hygienist:

  • With receding gums;
  • With red, inflamed, swollen and / or bleeding gums;
  • With loose teeth or molars;
  • With regular caries (holes);
  • With regular dental plaque or tartar on your teeth;
    With a bad taste in your mouth or bad breath (halitosis);
  • In the event of an illness or disorder that can be influenced by your oral health (systemic disorders).
