Visit the Dentist
Your dentist will prepare a care plan together with you. Your wishes and requests are included in the care plan. Based on that, we look at the possibilities to come to a desired solution that suits you best. After your dentist has decided, together with you, to pull all or part of your teeth, he or she will start the treatment plan. After the treatment plan has been accepted, you will be referred by the dentist to the CDT (clinical dental technician specialized in dentures). An
Immediate prosthesis, also called an emergency prosthesis or temporary prosthesis, is a dental prosthesis that is
made in advance. The aim is always to place this emergency prosthesis immediately after you have pulled your teeth.
Visits to the CDT
After the care plan has been decided on there will be a minimum initial payment of AED 750.00 for impressions, scanning, design and initial constructions. (may include try-in denture) The CDT specialist will manufacture the prosthesis for you on the basis of the treatment plan and on the instructions of the dentist. The CDT makes the prosthesis in 2-5 visits. Each visit takes an average of 30 minutes. Because we have our own laboratory, the manufacture of the prosthesis usually takes 8 working days. There are possibilities to be able to manufacture the prosthesis faster in exceptional cases.
Depending on your situation, phases are as follows:
1. Make prints
2. Make final prints
3. Bite determination
4. Fits in wax
5. Placement (by prosthetic specialist)
Phases 1 and 2, the dental impressions are made. Although we do our utmost, in exceptional situations, the following inconveniences may occur when printing your jaws:
- Nauseous feeling; mild pain; limited mucosal damage; dry mouth; loose teeth, old crowns and bridges can come loose, dry lips and lip corners.
Phases 3 and 4 are intended for the dimensions of your prosthesis. As a client, you have the free choice of colour definition. Concerning the stand, you have a partial input. For example, turning the incisors or creating space (slits) between the teeth is possible to a certain extent. The dimensions depend among other things on:
- The width and height of the jaws;
- The position of the lips at rest and while speaking and laughing.
In this case there is little input. This therefore depends on your anatomical shape.
The prosthesis is made of plastic teeth as standard. Porcelain teeth are chosen in exceptional cases. In this case, additional engineering costs will be charged. Porcelain teeth in an emergency prosthesis have a high risk of tooth fracture. This is not a desired situation. We therefore do not recommend this. Light reflection may also occur with some types of light lamps.
It is advisable to make good choices with regard to the stand and colour during this phase. Subsequent corrections entail unnecessary high costs that fall outside the budget.
Phase 5 is scheduled at the Dentist for the removal of your teeth. Depending on the complexity, it is determined by which practitioner the pulling of teeth is done. That can be the dentist or one of our other specialists. The method of implementation is reserved for the practitioner. The duration of this treatment usually varies between 30 and 60 minutes. After the extractions have taken place successfully, your dentures (immediate prosthesis) will be placed immediately. Some complications may occur during this phase, namely: ingrown elements may break down; root remains can remain; clamping the jaws; slight nerve damage; bleeding; tongue damage.
Although our specialists do their utmost to ensure that a treatment runs successfully, it is based on their best efforts. If a complication occurs during the removal of the teeth, treatment will be continued by a fellow dental surgeon. If it is necessary to remove root points, this is outside the budget. This can also apply to the corresponding stitches. After placement of your temporary prosthesis Certain inconveniences may occur after the immediate prosthesis has been placed with you. This way you can experience pain and pressure spots from the extraction for the first few days. The prosthesis must remain in the mouth for a certain period. Your practitioner will agree a time schedule with you for this. Swelling may occur due to the extractions. It is advisable not to remove your prosthesis. If you remove the prosthesis prematurely, you will no longer get it in place. It is also advisable not to rinse your mouth during the first few hours, as this will flush the blood clotting and cause new bleeding. Your practitioner strives to place a good, functional and aesthetic prosthesis with you. It is therefore of great importance to strictly follow the entire treatment process (all series sessions).
Follow-up check at / by the portal specialist
After 24 hours you will return for a wound check-up at the dentist. Immediately afterwards you go directly to the CDT for a check of your prosthesis. The CDT member will possibly adjust your prosthesis.
The following risks may still occur:
- Your prosthesis will collapse further;
- If the (after) pain of the extractions has decreased, your jaw will shrink
- Your prosthesis will then become loose;
- The functionality of your prosthesis will deteriorate;
- Aesthetics of your prosthesis is partly lost;
- Your jaw will shrink slowly and you may experience some pain. This creates pressure spots. This is often on the edge of the prosthesis in certain places;
- Having trouble eating and chewing. You have no real teeth but dentures.
After this, getting used to and dealing with your temporary prosthesis starts. This prosthesis is perhaps an aesthetic improvement of your teeth, but also causes a number of inconveniences. Examples of this are as follows: You will experience some difficulty speaking. This is because the prosthesis takes up more space in your mouth than your own teeth. Your tongue also has less space, which makes it difficult to talk. However, this will disappear automatically over time.
Follow-up process at the prosthesis specialist
To limit the aforementioned complications, it is very important to comply with aftercare agreements with your practitioner. Following example appointments that you will receive:
- Between 2 and 4 weeks your prosthesis will be provided with a soft in-between layer by the CDT.
- Your prosthesis will loosen after approximately 3 to 6 months. Your practitioner will rebase the prosthesis. This is the application of a new plastic layer. This will make the upper prosthesis fit better. The lower prosthesis will also fit better, but will still remain loose on the jaw.
- After the rebasing, pressure spots can occur again. These can be remedied free of charge by the CDT staff for up to 3 months after installation.
- You will return to the dentist and the KPT person between 6 and 9 months. This will determine to what extent your jaw has shrunk and it will be further determined whether a new definitive prosthesis will be made for you.
- A definitive prosthesis is added after 6 to 12 months. You get a nice and good functional prosthesis for at least 5 years. However, this definitive prosthesis can also become loose, depending on the number of factors. Your practitioner can also rebase this, which is usually reimbursed by your health insurer. Because the prosthesis is loose on the jaw, it can come loose with certain movements. This causes a lot of inconvenience. If the lower prosthesis with the correct fit remains loose, there is the possibility of being eligible for implants from the basic insurance. The indication for this is then given to the dental implantologist. You can also come to us for this.
Care and maintenance of your prosthesis.
It is of great importance that the prosthesis is properly maintained. This way you prevent plaque and tartar on your dentures. You can also clean your dental prosthesis after each meal with lukewarm water and (green) soap. You can also clean the prosthesis before going to sleep. Unlike your real teeth, you should not brush your prosthesis with toothpaste. For more information you can consult our website.
Non-compliance with the (follow-up) agreements
Fulfilling the agreements with your practitioner is one of the essential conditions for achieving the intended treatment results. It is very important that you comply with all (series) sessions / agreements on time. This also has a major impact on the planning of our Laboratory. If the agreements are not met, the entire treatment schedule will be disrupted. The costs that your practitioner incurs in connection with the reserved time for your consultations are also charged to you.
Interim suspension or termination of treatments / consultations
Stopping or having your prosthesis treatment unfinished can have negative consequences for your teeth. The intended treatment results can also not be achieved. There is also the chance that permanent damage to your teeth may occur. You are therefore responsible for the consequences that may occur as a result of discontinuation of treatment. Prolonged wearing of your (temporary) emergency prosthesis without (after) check by your practitioner causes damage to gums and jaws. These can be; more often fracture, pressure spots, unnecessary jaw load and gum growth.
